I watched this entire episode yesterday. Side note: I like SKOR North for the daily commitment to discussing Vikings topics, but they can get a little corny with the armchair GM stuff. The bit about repeatedly slamming down the phone until their demands are met really oversimplifies the nature of 32 multi-millionaire executives trying to negotiate deals with each other…
Anyways, here is my hang-up on any trade involving JJ:
1. I think it would be foolish to do any deal where you aren’t guaranteeing yourself one of the Top 2 QBs in this draft…
2. The only way to guarantee yourself one of the Top 2 QBs is to trade up into the Top 2 picks…
3. The teams holding the Top 2 picks (CHI and WAS) need franchise QBs a lot more than they need All Pro WRs…
4. Even if CHI or WAS did decide to go WR, would you rather draft the most freakish WR prospect since Megatron on a rookie contract (MHJ), or trade the pick for a proven All-Pro who needs a mega-contract extension?
So realistically, you can only trade JJ for a package that includes either non-Top-2 pick/s this year, and/or future year picks of unknown draft slots. That’s too vague of a return for me for an elite All-Pro not-yet 25 year-old player at a premium position who has done nothing even sniffing at discontented behavior in the building. I’m not even considering shipping that player off unless I know I’m getting the franchise QB prospect in return. JJ gets paid before I even think of potential extensions for Hunter (approaching 30) or Kirk (mid 30s coming off an achilles).
Agree it's going to be too hard to get top 1-3 that's why I said the jags in my make-believe scenario just to get the topic rolling
