We got 4 strong years from an UDFA. Amazing value. He came out of nowhere to claim a major role in our D. Deserves our appreciation.
Certainly fits the bill of a "Purple People Eater"
3/27 .. nice haul
Lucky bastard. Show up out of shape, apologize, underwhelm and still get 9 million per year.
As a Raven fan, I am glad he got his pay day. Quite possibly one of the most overhyped players on the team. His fate was sealed last July.
At one point, Pierce looked very promising.
It will be interesting to see how he prepares now that he’s been paid.
up until last season Pierce was a STUD. I'm interestsed to see how he does in a 4-3 defense, his quickness was always underrated.
LOL people so quick to bury a guy who had a down year when he was outplaying his overpaid DT partner for 3 seasons.
i dont thin it was a a bad deal. seems like market rate
You think he's Obese now, wait until he goes one full year with no training camp and no football. He's going to report to Vikings training camp at 500 lbs next year.
Vikings keep on giving. Vedvik and Pierce
He’ll be in shape. Round is a shape.
Pierce to Mini-soda
I don't think Pierce ever got out of the doghouse for turning up out of shape
Really sad to see Pierce go
I liked Pierce, for a while it looked like he would be the guy. I am glad he got paid!
Pierce is better than B Will. Sorry, but if we had to choose between the two no one would choose b will over pierce.
b will does nothing better than pierce. hes basically a lesser version of pierce.
b will does nothing better than pierce. hes basically a lesser version of pierce.
In a perfect scenario I also would have kept Pierce over B Will, but due to cap considerations we couldn't have done that. Pierce was an UFA and we only saved 4.25m by cutting BWill.
Based on the current deals that are going on I expect a 4th round comp pick for Pierce. Way to go EDC from drafting an UDFA, milking his skill sets for 4 yrs and then recouping a potential 4th rounder off of him. Congrats to Pierce by the way. Well deserved.
Brockers for pierce is plus or minus a little. Not a big change imo.
Brockers is much better than Pierce.
Also, am I just wrong for not seeing Brockers as majorly better than pierce. Don't you think a lot of Brockers' success is a function of Donald and fowler?
Pierce is a better player than brockers and younger. brockers is a better pass rush player ( but he's hardly elite, he's more along the lines of chris canty)
Brockers is one of the best run stoppers in the league and much better than Pierce and they both are about the same in pass rush ability. The only thing that Pierce had an advantage over Brockers was his age. Neither offered pass rush ability though, however according to Aaron Donald, he is the best run stopper in the league.
Shame we cant gid rid of b.will. At least pierce pushes the pocket better and is younger.
We signed brockers because pierce is leaving, our run defense was a problem just as much as our pass rush, and brockers is more valuable to this defense which already has a pure NT than pierce and will likely come at a better price. We wanted to move on from pierce, we did that
Pierce was good for one thing and couldn’t even do that very well. That’s why his market is slow. Brockers has incredible length and uses it at the point of attack. His versatility to move anywhere on the line is exactly what we needed. Wink is going to have fun with his lengthy and heavy new linemen who can actually move around. Williams and Pierce are essentially the same players. This was a huge upgrade over Pierce.
If Pierce gets back to where he was, that’s a steal for Minnesota though.
I think this might be a little bit of the grass being greener. But clearly the Ravens weren't as high on Pierce. 3/27 could really be a steal for him as you say if he returns to form.
Remember that Pierce came into his last two seasons overweight, and last year he was out of conditioning shape as well. He looked gassed after two drives every game the Ravens had to play an opponent that gave the Ravens a fight. This was Pierce facing a chance to get paid and he sat with his hands on his hips instead of taking his game to the next level.
Good luck to him.
Yep, definitely rather pay Brockers $10m/yr than give $9m/yr to Pierce
Thought Pierce would stay inside the division. With teams in the AFCN trying to contain our run game. Glad that didn't happen. He's a handful when in shape.
that's a pretty good deal for Minnesota with Pierce. I think he fits pretty well as a NG in a 4-man set too. Just have to hope he keeps himself in shape, what a vast difference that makes in his case.
