It's time to roll out the annual review of Head Coaches on the Hot Seat. Here are my unscientific guesses as to who's seat is SMOKING hot throughout the year...
HIGHLY LIKELY TO GET FIRED:
Matt Eberflus - CHI * (Potential mid-season firing) - The Bears couldn't have had a worse week... They are the front runners to "earn" the #1 overall pick 2 years in a row. And Eberflus certainly won't be the HC to groom a new QB after Fields is discarded.
Josh McDaniels - LV* (Potential mid-season firing) - The Raiders are basically an away team at their home stadium. He got a 2nd chance after a few seasons returning to NE to be their OC again. Some just aren't cut out for the gig and he's one of thousands who are not.
Ron Rivera - WAS - This situation feels like division title or bust. Or maybe it's just inevitable. New owner, new GM, new HC... Like clockwork.
Brandon Staley - LAC* (Potential mid-season firing) - KOC and the offense let a very badly coached Chargers team win today. This is a team being held back by coaching at the end of the day.
Jonathan Gannon - ARI - He feels like yet another puppet HC that Arizona hires and fires within a year or two.
SEAT IS SIMMERING:
Mike Tomlin - PIT - It's just reaching that point where even a good to great coach loses his fastball and needs a change of scenery. Tomlin's been there, what, 15+ years? Shaky offense, good defense. We'll see...
Brian Daboll - NYG - Investing in the wrong QB is disastrous for any organization. Danny Dimes ain't it, and Daboll's reputation as an offensive guru could be at stake.
Kevin O'Connell - MIN - The 2022 rookie darling HCs are off to sophomore slumps. How bad will it get here?
Mike Vrabel - TEN - Their OL has been a mess for multiple seasons. Derrick Henry is quietly (loudly if he's on your fantasy team) being phased out of the offense, which needs a complete overhaul regardless.
Zac Taylor - CIN - If Burrow is injured more than a week or two, it could get really ugly in Cincinnati this season.
THIS MAY BE THE YEAR HE RETIRES (!!):
Bill Belichick - NE - What is he hanging around for, honestly? It's a good team defensively, but the offense stinks. No WRs for years. Mac Jones is a step below the good game manager group like Carr, Garrappolo, etc.
SURPRISE RETIREMENTS:
Andy Reid, Pete Carroll
Thoughts?
